Vet Varsity announces names of award winning farmers for C M awards at Pashu Palan Mela

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana will confer on Chief Minister’s award to seven livestock farmers of the state in the 24th Pashu Palan Mela on 23rd of March. Dr. Harish Kumar Verma, Director of extension education said that GADVASU is making all out efforts for the development of the livestock sector in the state by strengthening its extension programmes. In order to motivate various categories of livestock farmers the university organizes innovative competitions by assessing the extent and impact of adoption of these technologies in improving the productivity profitability of different livestock farming system. In this response university received a number of applications. A committee of experts including Deans and Directors visited the livestock farmers who participated in the competitions and evaluated the total farming system.

After final decision university announced the names of winners in different categories. In the cattle category Sh. Preetinder Singh S/O S. Harjinder Singh VPO Naag Distt. Amritsar will get the award. He started dairy farming in year 1997. Now he has 155 cows and effective cattle are producing about 17 quintals of milk daily. He had established a milking parlour, ultra-modern shed and Bio-Gas Plant. One of his cows has record of 55 liters milk. He has also establish a brand name 'Goka' for his processed milk and products.

In the buffalo category Sh. Bhim Sen S/O Sh. Chand Ram VPO Cheema,  Distt. Barnala was selected for the award. He started dairy farming in year 2006. Now he has 250 animals and effective 125 buffaloes are producing about 10 quintals of milk daily. To provide quality feed he prepares his own feed with herbal ingredients. He had established ultra modern shed. He maintained proper record of dairy farming.

In the goat farming category Sh. Jugraj Singh S/O Sh. Karam Singh, Vill.Dhande  Distt. Bathinda has been selected for the award. He started goat farming in year 2016. Now he has 240 head count. He is earning more than Rs. 500 from a single goat in a month.

Sh. Paramjit Singh S/O S.Ajmer Singh, Vill. Dhindsa Distt. Patiala has been selected for the award in fish farming category. He started fish farming since 20 years back with 5 acres land. Now he is working on 20 acres area with 25 quintal per acre production annually. He is doing fish farming in a scientific manner. He has been also visited China as part of Punjab Govt. delegation to study fish farming of China.

In Piggery category Sh. Tajinder Pal Singh S/O S. Pargat Singh, Vill. Khasi Kalan, Distt. Ludhiana will be decorated with the award. Now he has an impressive number of about 1000 pigs. He has developed ultra modern dairy sheds and Bio-Gas Plant. He produces his own feed for pigs.

In Piggery category Sh. Sanjit Singh Sidhu S/O S. Col. G.S.Sidhu, Vill. Ranjitpura, Distt. Mohali will be another awardee. He has more than 100 pigs. He has developed ultra modern and airy sheds. He produces his own feed for pigs.

In the Value Addition category of livestock products S. Baldev Singh S/O S. Savinder Singh, Vill. Meharbanpura, Distt. Amritsar has been selected. He started his processing unit and now making 9 types of different Value Added products and earning more than Rs. 20000 per month.

These awards carry plaque, shawl and citation along with cash.
