Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran organized field day cum awareness programme

programme under ‘Cluster Frontline Demonstrations on Oilseed’ at KVK campus. The main theme of the programme was to create awareness among farmers regarding processing and marketing of Canola Sarson. Around 350 farmers and officials of different departments attended the programme at KVK. Dr HK Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana was chief guest and Shri Sandeep Rishi, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Tarn Taran was Guest of Honor in the programme. Officials from GADVASU, Punjab Agricultural University and line Departments viz. Agriculture, Horticulture, ATMA, FASC PAU (Tarn Taran), Seed Farm PAU, Usma have also participated in the programme. Companies viz. Pioneer, Sheetal Feeds, Sahiwal Feeds, BS Gill Tractors, Shaktiman, Massey Ferguson, SHG working with KVK and Deptt. of Horticulture displayed their products and technologies in the exhibition stallsduring the event

In inaugural address, Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director, KVK, Tarn Taran welcome all the farmers, officials and companies for their participation in the event. He highlighted the importance of the programme and awared the farmers regarding ‘Canola Sarson’. Dr Kumar emphasized that crop diversification is an important component of sustainable agriculture and crops so Canola Sarson must be included in the crop rotation. Dr Kumar emphasized that the oil of canola sarson is highly useful for human health and its oil cake is good for animals. Speaking on the occasion, Dr HK Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU Ludhiana, stressed upon adoption of scientific techniques for canola cultivation. Dr. Verma highlighted about various technologies and useful inputs developed by the university to the farmers for better livestock production. Experts Dr Virender Sardana, Dr Pankaj Sharma, Mrs Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon and Navjot S Brar elaborated the detailed production technology, processing and marketing of canola sarson. A leaflet on ‘Package of Practices for Canola Sarson’ in Punjabi has also been released by the Chief Guest. Shri Sandeep Rishi, ADC, Tarn Taran, while, interacting with farmers appreciated the efforts of KVK team in transferring various technologies to the farmers and also appealed farmers to associate with KVK to get knowledge of latest technologies. The KVK experts Anil Kumar and Nirmal Singh also put their efforts in displaying the technology and literature of the University in exhibition stall and interacted with farmers throughout the event. Chief Guest along with other officials and farmers visited the Canola sarson raised by farmer Mr Rajbir Singh under Cluster Frontline Demonstrations on Oilseed Programme at viilage Booh. Team of Scientists also visited the demonstration units of the KVK, where different wheat varieties, adaptive trials of onion and soil fertility plots have been raised by KVK. Dr Balwinder Kumar thanked all the farmers, farm women officials and companies for their participation and making the programme a success.
