VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR RURAL YOUTH BY KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA, HANDIAYA

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barnala of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized a seven days vocational training programme for rural youth of Barnala district.  Dr. P. S. Tanwar, Associate Director, KVK, Barnala inaugurated the training  programme and  highlighted the activities carried out by the KVK for farming  community. He emphasized for adoption of Bee-Keeping as a subsidiary occupation as there is good chance of self employment in Bee keeping. He also said that bees enhance the productivity of crops through better pollination. Dr. K. S. Matharu, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), KVK, Barnala  imparted technical knowhow on different aspects of bee keeping like identification of important caste of honey bee, European bee life cycle, seasonal management, queen bee rearing, laying worker, availability of flora, feed and feeding management, demonstration on honey extraction, insect-pest and diseases of honey bee.  Sh. Manavpreet Singh, District manager, Sangrur also gave detailed information on the NABARD scheme for Bee keeping. Dr. Harjot Singh, Assistant Professor (Horticulture), delivered a lecture on availability of nector and pollen in different horticultural crops in different season. Mr. Khushvir Singh, Assistant Professor (Fisheries) also suggested the farmers to go for integrated bee-keeping and fish farming, for enhancing income. Dr. Anjuly, Assistant Professor (Home Science) delivered lecture on preparation of value added products as major ingredient honey viz. honey-ginger syrup, honey turmeric and ginger antiseptic and honey-lemon.
