Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mohali of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Ludhiana organized One week vocational training on horticulture entitled “Commercial vegetable cultivation” at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A. S. Nagar (Mohali). Twenty progressive farmers and rural youth took part in this training programme. Dr Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor Horticulture (Training Incharge) gave detailed lecture and practical exposure on various techniques of growing various vegetable
crops in kitchen gardens as well as for commercial venture. He discussed about various techniques of nursery raising, scientific cultivation practices, protected cultivation techniques and organic farming of vegetables. He discussed about various production related problems and gave their solutions. Dr Yashwant Singh Deputy Director (Training) motivated farmers for vegetable production and asked them to adopt crop diversification. He also discussed about various schemes of KVK. Dr Shashipal, Assistant Professor (Livestock Production) gave lecture on integration of livestock with horticulture. Dr Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor (Home Science) gave lecture on value addition and storage of vegetable crops. Dr Priyanka Suryavanshi, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) gave lecture on weed management and water management in vegetable crops. Mr Gurwinderpal Kalja (Project Incharge), Petroleum Conservation Research Association gave information on conservation of fuel used in various tools, implements and machinery. Progressive farmers Darshan Singh, Sarbjinder Singh and Harminder Singh shared their experiences with the participants and thanked KVK faculty for this training programme.
