Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Handiaya (Barnala) of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has organised five days 
vocational training on “Integrated Farming System” at village Hamidi ( Barnala) in which a total of 39 farmers and farm women of schedule caste families had participated. Training programme was inaugurated by Dr Prahalad Singh Tanwar, Associate Director (Training), KVK (Barnala). In his introductory lecture he aware the farmers regarding various types of small scale entrepreneurship ventures from which a small to marginal farmers could make profitable business by getting training and time to time assist from KVK. He gave emphasis on backyard poultry farming and Goat farming as a profitable business. He also conveyed a positive message by creating an interest on mushroom cultivation at house hold level and can earn additional income. Dr Harjot Singh Sohi, 
Assistant Professor (Horticulture) explained about Oyster, Button, Paddy and Milky mushrooms cultivation, Nutrition and medicinal mushrooms and its importance in balance diet were discussed and farmers were also trained to make reuse of spent mushroom substrate. Dr Khushvir Singh, Assistant professor (Fisheries) delivered a lecture on ornamental fish farming and fabrication of aquarium for ornamental fish. Dr Suryendra Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) taught about the basic methodology behind vermi-composting and suggested the farmers to make start this technique as small business. Dr Kamaldeep Singh Matharu, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) explained the different species of bees, their migratory behaviour, bee venom, honey, 
wax, pollen, royal jelly utility in our daily life. Dr Surinder Singh, Assistant Professor (LPM) taught about feeding and management of dairy animals. He also discussed on various precautionary steps need to follow to prevent common problems faced by the farmers in dairy animals. Dr Anjuly Sharma, Assistant Professor (Home Science) delivered a lecture on preparation of various pickles, murabas and discussed on drudgery reduction tools. In the end of training, a book on poultry farming, new year Calendar (GADVASU) and 30 days old Chicks of RIR breed of poultry and 5kg poultry feed were supplied to each trainees to start the back yard poultry farming. In this training programme, members of village panchyat and Sarpanch , Sh. Sudagar Singh showed keen interest and said that these type of programmes make the farmers aware about new scientific techniques and researches.
