Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Tarn Taran, Punjab organised awareness camp on "Economic empowerment of women through skill building,” at Village- Bala Chak, District- Tarn Taran. The programme was attended by different stakeholders ,village Sarpanch, Member Panchayat, farm women, Revenue staff, etc. Thirty one women farmer belonging to the village Bala Chak attended this programme. Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director, KVK, Tarn Taran inaugurated the programme and elaborated the working of KVK for the benefit of the farming community. Dr. Kumar said that women empowerment through adoption of subsidiary occupation such as milk value addition, mushroom cultivation and setting up of embroidery unit at house hold level for rural women is necessity of the day. In this regard, the event mainly focused on income generation vis-à-vis income saving techniques by the farm women at household level in rural areas. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon delivered message regarding income generation with effective management of nutrition garden through demonstrating the "zero-waste integrated food processing technology" model. Dr. Anil Kumar discussed the key point while practicing vermi- composting with farmers. Navjot Singh Brar emphasized the various techniques to enhance their productivity of crops using eco-friendly measures.

Jasbir Singh, Sarpach of village Bala Chak thanked the KVK team for creating awareness among farm women regarding adoption of various subsidiary enterprises at household level. KVK scientists motivated farm women to work in a team and format a self-help group. Some women wished Deputy Director of KVK to conduct vocational training programme for women on embroidery, value addition of agricultural and dairy products as they want to start these professions. Information related to cultivation practices for rabi crops, importance of minerals in livestock production and knowledge about organic farming was also given to the farmers of this village. The occasion was concluded by delivering vote of thanks by MPiverjeet Kaur Dhillon.
