06 December 2017 - Livestock farmers visit 10th National Livestock Championship Show with GADVASU team

To make the farmers knowledge rich an exposure visit of a group of twenty five farmers from the operational area of Farmer FIRST Project running under Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) was arranged to make the farmers apprised with different breeds of bovine, equine, caprine and ovine to the 10th National Livestock Championship and Expo 2017, organized by Department of Animal Husbandry Punjab at village Jahlan, Patiala from 1st-5th December 2017. Dr Jaswinder Singh, Assistant professor and Co-Principal Investigator of the project along with Ravneet Singh Brar, Senior Research Fellow coordinated the visit.

Farmers visited the Stalls of NABARD, GADVASU, Animal Husbandry Department, Dairy Development Department and other establishments to have the first-hand knowledge of their functioning and activities. The scientist and the representatives at the stalls briefed the farmers about the various schemes and the inputs available for the livestock farmers as well as other stakeholders. Farmers took keen interest in cattle and buffaloes especially Murrah bull competition. Jagtar Singh, one of the progressive livestock farmers from Kalala village and group leader revealed that they are glad to see the beautiful and pure breed animals especially of Murrah, HF, Jersey, Sahiwal animals. He further revealed that the whole group seen the "Dhumba" breed of sheep for the very first time in this show. Further he on the behalf of whole group thanked the GADVASU for arranging this opportunity for them which will definitely help them in long way. Dr S K Kansal, Principal Investigator of the project and head of the Veterinary Extension department told that they are regularly arranging the visit of the farmers not only under this project but under other programmes also to enhance the knowledge and skill set of livestock farmers. Dr. H K Verma Dir.of Ext.Edu GADVASU and Nodal Officer of the project informed that this project has been sanctioned by ICAR- New Delhi to GADVASU under which the beneficiary farmers are being provided with various livestock interventions so as to make them aware and educate to adopt these practices for a healthy livestock entrepreneurship.
