Directorate of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized a motivational lecture on “Information Delivery Systems in Livestock Extension: Status and Challenges” by ICAR-Best Teacher awardee Dr. Hema Tripathi, Principal Scientist, ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes, (CIRB), Hisar. Dr S.K. Kansal, Professor and HOD welcomed the audience and also described bio-data of Dr. Tripathi who was bestowed with ICAR Award, 'Bharat Ratna Dr. C. Subramaniam Award' of outstanding teacher- 2015 in July 2016 under Social Sciences.
Dr. Hema Tripathi, delivered lecture on “Information Delivery Systems in Livestock Extension: Status and Challenges” and shared valuable information with faculty members and students of GADVASU. She explained the role of extension functionaries, veterinarians, NGOs, ATMA and social media for socio-economic upliftment of the farming community. There was a good interaction with the scientist and researchers, who on one hand learnt the different extension techniques and also shared their experiences of extension education.
Dr. Harish Kumar Verma, Director, Extension Education informed that this motivational lecture was being organized to discuss the gap between lab to land and how extension in livestock sector can be improved as only 5% livestock farmers have access the information as compare to crop farmers (40%). Dr. Verma further mentioned that this type of inspirational and motivational lecture will be useful for budding veterinarians for encouraging them for extension work. The function was attended by Heads of various departments, faculty members and P.G. students.
Dr. S.K. Kansal also appraised the efforts of Dr. Tripathi in the field of extension education and transfer of livestock technologies to the farmers and proposed the vote of thanks.
