Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) organized one week vocational training course on “Fabric embellishment by using traditional printing techniques (Tie & Dye and Block printing)” at village Sahauran w.e.f 6th to12th December, 2017. Dr. Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor (Home Science) coordinated this training programme. In this training, she emphasized on the scope of tie and dye and block printing for
development of small scale enterprises. Dr. Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director, KVK, Mohali inaugurated the training programme and gave a detailed lecture on importance of rural crafts and establishment of small scale enterprises. Dr. Parul Gupta discussed about different techniques of tie and dye and block printing and demonstrated the selection of cloth and process of doing tying and dyeing at home level. Besides this, she also emphasized on different colour schemes and selection of material for tie and dye and block printing. Dr. Parul demonstrated block printing techniques on cotton and silk cloth. Thirty rural girls from different villages were participated in this training programme. On the last day, participants put up an exhibition of dupattas, stoles, cushion covers, pillow covers and shirt pieces prepared by them during this training programme. Farm women thanked the KVK faculty and asked them to organize such programmes for their skill development in future.
