Livestock entrepreneurship training: A way to prosperity concludes at Vet Varsity

A National level Model Training Course for field officers of line departments of different states organized by Directorate of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana concluded today on 8th August 2016.  It was sponsored by Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India on the subject “Extension Strategies for sustainable Entrepreneurship in Livestock sector”. The course was attended by 20 Veterinary/ Dairy Officers/Scientist from Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, MP and Punjab. The Registrar, GADVASU, Dr Sushil Prabhakar, was the Chief Guest on this occasion. In his concluding remarks Dr Prabhakar revealed that livestock and related entrepreneurships are gaining ground in these days owing to great demand of livestock products and food and nutritional security. He highlighted the importance of Veterinary Extension in the present scenario in bringing the awareness regarding the scientific practices   to get maximum profit. 

Dr.H K Verma, the Course Director cum Director Extension Education, GADVASU told that participants were fully equipped with various knowledge dissemination strategies through various deliberations by the national level  experts  from Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar, National Research Centre on Equines, Hisar and Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes (CIRB)Hisar, and Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammuand field visits. Various entrepreneurship avenues in livestock sector viz Dairy, Poultry, Piggery and Goat farming, feed manufacturing, mineral mixture making, value addition of milk and meat, biogas and vermi composting, marketing, women empowerment through livestock farming etc are deliberated in the course. He emphasized that now farmers should focus on entrepreneurs as DAIRYPRENEURS and LIVESTOCKENTREPREURS. Dr S K Kansal, course coordinator revealed that such training provides a right platform for interaction of the scientists of the apex institute and the field functionaries which further form the linkage at grass root level. Dr Jaswinder Singh, technical coordinator revealed that during this course an interaction of trainees with chief minister awardee pig farmer Sh Sukhwinder Singh Kotli was arranged to provide the practical knowledge in this emerging entrepreneurship. Dr M P Gupta, Head, department of veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education proposed vote of thanks to the chief guest, organizing team and participants. A lecture compendium of the lecture delivered during the training period as hard copy and soft one along with CD was also provided to each trainee.
