College of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana celebrated “World Environment Day” with a theme 'Adopt Plant'. The event was inaugurated with the 'National Anthem' and was followed by a plantation drive by the chief guest Dr. Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean Post Graduate Studies,
(GADVASU) and Dr. Asha Dhawan, Dean College of Fisheries (GADVASU). All UG and PG students, faculty, office staff and field staff of the college planted 35 plants of Amaltas and Gulmohar in the premises of the college, which have been adopted by the students under the leadership of the faculty and will be taken care of by all the adopters themselves. Presentations were also made by the students on World Environment Day, which impressed on judicious use of environment by the present generation to conserve it for the present as well as the future generations.
In addition to the plantation drive, a competition with the theme ‘Best out of Waste’ was also conducted. The UG students made variety of things out of waste material like newspapers, plastics, magazines, bottles, polythene, tiers, CDs etc. and the winners were given prizes. Dr. Simrat Sagar Singh, Chief Guest of the function while addressing the gathering motivated everyone to come forward and contribute their bit to protect and save the environment. He also apprised the students with the commendable contributions made by Dr. M.S. Randhawa, former Vice Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University towards environment through planting beautiful flower and fruit trees in the university campus as well as the city. He also congratulated the Dean and faculty of College of Fisheries for motivating the students to understand their responsibilities towards the environment through celebrating meaningful learning events.
While delivering 'World Environment Day' Message, Dr. Asha Dhawan, Dean, College of Fisheries appreciated the theme highlighting the importance of trees in conservation of environment, which is burning with the heat of 'Global Warming' and needs to be addressed immediately before it is too late. She also appreciated the enthusiasm and responsibility taken by the students to join hands for making the much needed 'Hand Prints' to mitigate the global warming anthropogenic 'Foot Prints'. The event was organized by Dr. Shanthana gaouda, In-charge, Dance Drama and Music Club, College of Fisheries, which concluded with a message to keep the environment 'Clean and Green'.
