A one day Workshop-cum-Training course on “Ideal Livestock Management for better Animal Production” for the subject matter specialists (Animal Science) working in different Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Punjab was organized on 25th March, 2016, by Directorate of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary And Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. The program was attended by 23 participants and was marked by comprehensive Scientific deliberations covering applied Animal Science fields.
Addressing the inaugural session, Dr. H. K. Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU, stressed upon the institutional policies and importance of training for sustainable mandate of extension in farmers’ economic development. The prominent speakers as the occasion were Dr. B. K. Bansal, Dr. A. L. Saini, Dr. C. S. Randhawa, Dr. S. K. Kansal. Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh & Dr. Prahlad Singh who deliberated on various issues of animal health, management, reproduction, value addition and effective extension services for the benefit of farmers.
The training was financed by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. During the valedictory function, the participants were encouraged to attend such workshops in future to strengthen the extension work in the field of livestock production with the ever increasing livestock database. Veterinary Scientist has to shoulder the greater responsibility in the livestock sector by empowering the farmers for enhancing quality production through emerging trends in Extension strategies. That is why livestock extension is also changing. Extension specialists have to adopt the newer methods of knowledge dissemination for making the relevant information available to the farmers at the right time for timely interventions.
