Value Addition of Products Increase the income in a handsome manner – GADVASU Experts

Department of Livestock Products Technology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Ludhiana organized a five days training programme for the field veterinarians working under State Animal Husbandry Department under Professional Efficiency Development Programme on the “Requirement of meat and milk industry related to veterinary profession” financed by Punjab State Veterinary Council. The course director Dr Jhari Sahoo said that the schedule of the training was extensive and included total thirty lecture-cum-practical demonstrations. Total eleven veterinary doctors from districts of Ludhiana, Bhatinda, Sangrur etc enthusiastically participated and learned latest know-how in the area of clean milk production, slaughtering and dressing operations in a meat plant, ante mortem & post mortem inspection of meat animals, quality evaluation of livestock products, adulteration in milk, meat and their products, project formulation for setting up of small slaughter house and dairy plant, cleaning and sanitation practices in dairy and meat plants as well as development of various value added milk and meat products. All the trainees had hands-on-training for the preparation of various milk products such as different varieties of lassi, flavoured milk, paneer and mozzarella cheese, meat products i.e. meat nuggets, balls, patties, loaves, pickle etc. The demonstration was also organized on various techniques of packaging of milk, meat and their products. The trainees also visited the GADVASU dairy plant and seen its working. The Course Coordinator was Dr Manish Kumar Chatli and co- course coordinator Dr A.K. Biswas explained every minute detail about thr profession.

On this occasion, the Department has also released a Compendium compiled and edited by Drs. Jhari Sahoo, Manish Kumar Chatli and Asim Kumar Biswas. Dr. Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean, College of Veterinary Science was chief guest in the inaugural function of the training. The concluding ceremony was chaired by Dr K.S.Sidhu, Director of Extension Education and he distributed certificates among the trainee and interacted with the veterinary doctors to know their needs and assured them that the university is always ready for their upgradation of their knowledge and they can utilize university laboratory facilities for various sample analysis for diseases diagnosis. He stressed them to implement the latest development in the area of veterinary and animal husbandry in the field for the benefits of the farmers.
