A senior Professor of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Dr Prayag Dutt Juyal has been nominated as the chairman of the Indian NTTAT (Non Tsetse Transmitted Animal Trypanosome) group along with Dr S.S.Chaudhary of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University(CCSHAU ) , Hisar as co-chairman, communicated by Dr Louis Touratier adhoc secretary of Office international des epizooties( World Organisation for Animal Health) Paris (France).Dr Touratier attended 20th annual congress of veterinary parasitologists on the theme “Parasitology Today- Ecology to Molecular Biology” held recently at CCSHAU Hisar on 19th Feb,2010.The main aim of this group will be to research, report , collect data related to epidemiology, diagnosis, chemotherapy and control and make liaison with OIE on T.evansi in livestock and zoonotic possibilities in humans in India. Although surra disease is predominantly occur among livestock in India, but the report of human cases have attracted the attention of scientists worldwide few years back in Maharashtra and West Bengal. This group has 11 scientists from State agricultural universities (GADVASU, Ludhiana, Sri Venketaswar Veterinary University ,Tirupati, CCSHAU,Hisar, Sardar Krushinagar Dantiwada University , Gujarat) and ICAR institutes ( Equine Research Centre, Hisar ,Indian Veterinary Research Institute Izat nagar and National Research on Camels , Rajasthan ) in India. Dr. Ashuma one of the young scientists was awarded the best poster paper award for her research work on Balantidiosis in dairy animals of Punjab during the congress. Faculty of veterinary parasitology including Dr S.S.Rath , Dr L.D.Singla and Dr Harkirat Singh participated in the congress. While Dr Juyal delivered invited lecture on “Humane experimentation of animals and concept of 3Rs in research” Dr S.S.Rath co- chaired one of the session. Earlier, Dr Juyal who is the general Secretary of Indian Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology was also included as one of the standing committee member of Associations of institutions of tropical veterinary medicine, Netherlands.
