University committed to make hostels ‘a home away from home’: VC GADVASU

Announcing a plethora of facilities for the hostel inmates, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) Vice Chancellor Dr. V .K. Taneja today said that university was committed to provide hostellers “best possible” facilities. The VC said the university would make hostels equipped with all ultra modern facilities including provisions for microwaves, hot air ovens, water heating, proper lighting, refrigeration facilities and a comfortable living.

“We are committed to make the hostels a home away from home”, Dr Taneja told the girl inmates of Hostel No.  5 while attending a religious function organised by hostellers to mark the inauguration of newly constructed residential wing.  Accompanied by Director Students’ Welfare (DSW) Dr Kulbir Singh Sandhu the Vice Chancellor gave a patient hearing to students. The vice chancellor said keeping in view the harsh weathers, both in winters and summers, the varsity authorities have granted the project to install micro waves and water chilling units on every floor of the hostel. Soon a canteen would be opened he added.  He exhorted the students to pay full attention to their studies so as to excel in studies. Later the VC also undertook an inspection of rooms, wash rooms, hostel mess and expressed his satisfaction.

While addressing the students, DSW Dr. Sandhu unveiled his directorate’s plans for the betterment of hostels, both boys and girls in varsity campus. He said that a new “international guest house” and farmers hostel too was in pipeline and the project was expected to be launched next month. He also assured students that soon they would be provided additional book rack, a cycle shed and a passage connecting the two buildings. 

Earlier, on Monday the hostel inmates organised the Akhand Path to invoke almighty’s blessings.  All the staff and students of hostel also participated in prayers and later were served langar. The hostel residents echoed with sacred hymns and filled everyone’s heart with spiritual zeal and sanctity.
