KVK Booh becomes rendezvous for the Nili Ravi buffalo breeders

April 4

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Booh (Tarn Taran) organized a meeting of Nili Ravi buffalo breeders. It was a significant event aimed at strengthening the conservation and improvement of the breed. The event was chaired by Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education. About 25 breeders from various villages in the district joined the meeting.
Dr. Grewal elaborated the Nili Ravi buffalo's importance, particularly in the Majha region. He underscored the breed’s historical and economic value, pointing out that the Nili Ravi has long been central to meeting the region's demand for milk and dairy products. He also expressed concern about the alarming decline in the population of this breed and called for immediate, concerted efforts to conserve it. He suggested that the formation of an association dedicated to the breed would create a unified voice for breeders and foster collaboration. Dr. Grewal informed the breeders that high-quality Nili Ravi semen is now readily available at KVK, Booh. This initiative aims to enhance the breed’s genetic quality and overall productivity.
Dr. Prabjeet Singh, Deputy Director (Training) at KVK, assured the breeders that they could collect the semen at their convenience, making it easier for them to incorporate advanced breeding techniques into their practices. The meeting was not only an opportunity to address critical issues surrounding the Nili Ravi breed, but it also served as a platform for breeders to develop an open dialogue. The breeders exchanged their experiences, challenges, and recommendations.
Dr. Prabhjinder Singh Mann delivered a compelling presentation on the immense benefits and future opportunities that could arise by forming a Nili Ravi Association, highlighting the potential for better networking, resource sharing, and collective advocacy for the breed’s conservation.
Dr. Navjot Singh Brar expressed gratitude to the breeders for their active participation
