The Board of Management of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, has approved the appointment of new officers for various positions in the university. Dr. Suresh Kumar Sharma has been appointed as the Registrar, Dr. Meera D. Ansal as Dean of the College of Fisheries, Dr. Swaran Singh Randhawa as Dean of the College of Veterinary Science, and Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal as Director of Extension Education.
Dr. Jatinder Paul Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor extended his congratulations to the newly appointed officers, expressing confidence that their leadership will significantly contribute to the advancement of academics, research, and extension services at the university.
Dr. Suresh Kumar Sharma, before his appointment as the Registrar of Vet Varsity, held positions as University Librarian and Dean of the College of Animal Biotechnology. With extensive experience in research and administration, he has successfully completed 12 projects funded by national and state agencies. He played a pivotal role in establishing India’s first Collaborative Research Centre for Veterinary Ayurveda at varsity, in collaboration with the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. A prolific researcher, Dr. Sharma has authored numerous publications in reputed national and international journals. Recognizing his exceptional contributions to teaching, the university honored him with the Best Teacher Award. He also serves as General Secretary and Fellow of the Indian Society of Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology.
With 25 years of diverse professional experience, Dr. Meera D. Ansal has taken charge as Dean of the College of Fisheries for the second time. She has an extensive academic record, with over 300 research, teaching, and extension publications, and has mentored 13 master’s and PhD students as a major advisor. Dr. Ansal pioneered varsity’s initiative to convert inland salt-affected, waterlogged wastelands in southwest Punjab into productive aqua-farms, earning her the Fellow Award and Best Success Story Award from the Indian Ecological Society. She also played a crucial role in establishing the Capacity Building Resource Centre for Intensive Aquaculture Technologies—the first of its kind in northwestern India.
Dr. Swaran Singh Randhawa joined as Dean of the College of Veterinary Science, before this he served as Director of Clinics for over four years. A distinguished clinician in Veterinary Medicine, he has made pioneering contributions in the field of bovine lameness and has significantly advanced research on equine and canine respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases. He was the first in India to evaluate sole thickness in crossbred dairy cattle using ultrasonography. Dr. Randhawa has published nearly 100 research papers in esteemed national and international journals. In recognition of his excellence in clinical education, he was awarded the university’s Best Teacher Award for Clinical Subjects (2017-18). Under his leadership, the university’s Veterinary Hospital saw the establishment of a Critical Care Unit and the introduction of advanced diagnostic facilities.
Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal joined as Director of Extension Education. Earlier he has served as Director of Livestock Farms. He joined as Dairy Manager in 1998. He worked in the Animal Nutrition department. He has more than 75 research papers, 40 extension articles, two books and 180 extension lectures on his credit. He handled six research projects and designed climate resilient sheds for five, 10 and 150 animals. During his tenure as Director Livestock farm milk production of dairy farms was increased by 50 percent. He is known amongst dairy farmers as experts in dairy animal nutrition and management. He introduced Lucerne hay, Wheat hay and calf feeding programme.
