Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh organised Skill development training programs for the SC farmers

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran organised two 5 days Skill development training programs on “Scientific Fish Farming” and “Fish Processing and Value Addition” for the SC farmers of district Tarn Taran in collaboration with ICAR- CIFE (Central Institute of Fisheries Education) under the Schedule Caste (SC-SP) Scheme of Govt. of India. Deputy Director (Trg.) of the centre, Dr. Prabjeet Singh informed that a batch of 70 trainees including both male and female participants were trained in these two training programmes. The training programmes were tailor made to inculcate entrepreneurial skills in fisheries to empower participants to generate their livelihood. The technical sessions of this program were coordinated by Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon and Mr. Sahil . The course director Dr. Prabjeet Singh informed that the trainees received real time learning experience in fish farming through knowledge on Pre-Stocking, Stocking and Post-Stocking management practices. The farmers were also inculcated with entrepreneurial skills on fish processing and value addition through different lectures coupled with hands on training. Besides this the experts from College of Fisheries, Dr. Ajeet Singh and Dr. Naveen Kumar B.T imparted thorough knowledge on fish processing and disease management in fish culture, respectively. Dr Rajinder Kaur,  Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mohali was also invited as a guest speaker who imparted knowledge on fish post-harvest handling and culture practices through hands on 
training and lectures.
Dr. P.S. Brar, Director of Extension Education said that university is playing a pivotal role in uplifting the socio-economic status of the under-privileged socio-economic status of the society through skill oriented training programs and technical guidance. 
Dr. Jatinder Paul Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor emphasized on the importance of tailor-made training programs in uplifting the socio-economic status of farmers. 
He highlighted the need for the Krishi Vigyan Kendra to expand its outreach to farmers across Punjab, urging the institution to explore untapped areas where farmers’ skills can be enhanced so that they could be empowered to secure a more respectable and sustainable livelihood.
