Vet Varsity Scientists Participated in FAO-USAID Workshop

Scientists from the Centre for One Health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University participated in the Orientation-cum-Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop for frontline ‘In-Service Applied Veterinary Epidemiology Training’ master trainers under the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) supported Global Health Security Program of United States Agency for International Development. The event was held at National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (NIVEDI), Bengaluru, Karnataka. FAO, India has collaborated with Vet Varsity and Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University to carry out capacity building among veterinary professionals across India. This event was coordinated by the FAO Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) with focus on capacity building in the field of veterinary epidemiology to strengthen disease surveillance strategies and field outbreak investigations in the country. The scientific discussions were directed by Dr. R.K. Singh and Dr. Vikram Singh Vashist from FAO, India, and Dr. Mudassar Chanda, Senior Scientist at ICAR-NIVEDI, who provided applied insights into components of field epidemiology for managing infectious disease threats effectively.
Dr. Jasbir Singh Bedi, Director of the Centre for One Health, along with faculty members Dr. Pankaj Dhaka and Dr. Deeplai Kalambhe, represented Varsity at the workshop. Dr. Bedi highlighted the ongoing activities of the Centre in the framework of One Health, and also underscored the University's commitment to advancing applied veterinary epidemiology initiatives and sets the foundation for further capacity building among field-level veterinary professionals.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor,  commended the team for forging this international collaboration, which aims to enhance the skills of veterinary doctors, particularly in Northern India, in field epidemiology, disease surveillance, and outbreak management. This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening the One Health approach to safeguard both animal and public health.
