Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University organized two one-day training camps for beneficiary farmers at adopted villages in Block Mehal Kalan of Barnala district under ICAR funded ‘Farmer FIRST’ project of GADVASU. These training-cum-input distribution camps were organized under the guidance of Dr. P.S. Brar, Director of Extension Education–cum–Nodal
officer of Farmer FIRST Project.
The camps were organized by Dr. Dilpreet Talwar and Dr. Amandeep Singh, Co-Principal Investigators and Dr. Navkiran Kaur in which a total 50 beneficiary farmers from the Mehal Kalan, Moom, Kalala, Channanwal, Dhaner and Hamidi villages were trained and provided bags for cultivation of mushroom. Dr. Dilpreet Talwar delivered the expert lecture on the cultivation techni
ques and optimal management of Dhingri and Button mushrooms. He furthermore explained the nutritional benefits of mushroom and emphasized that it should be made a part of the nutritious diet plan.
Dr. Amandeep Singh while addressing the farmers emphasized the adoption of mushroom cultivation as an entrepreneurial venture and an additional source of income during the lean and dry season. He explained to the farmers about marketing strategies which will ensure livelihood and nutritional security leading to upliftment of socio-economic status.
Demonstration bags of Dhingri and Button mushrooms were also provided to the beneficiary farmers to promote the adoption of mushroom cultivation as an entrepreneurial enterprise.
