Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran organised a vocational training programme on “Backyard Poultry farming” under Scheme RKVY-13 'Push to the livestock sector and its sustainability during the current challenging scenario through the implementation of novel practices' . 25 farmers from Gharyala village of district Tarn Taran attended this training programme. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Booh, welcomed the farmers and highlighted the importance of Backyard Poultry farming for resource poor people in rural areas. He also talked about the different activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran for socio economic upliftment of the farm community. He elaborated that backyard poultry farming is an enterprise with low initial investment but higher economic returns and can easily be managed by women, children and old aged persons of the households. Dr. Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Livestock Production and Course Coordinator discussed with trainees about the breeds and feeding management of backyard poultry in detail. He elaborated about the scientific brooding management of chicks and management of different categories of poultry birds. Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon, Assistant Professor, Home Science explained the nutritive value of poultry meat and egg. She also enlightened the trainees about the egg processing and value addition techniques. Trainees thanked KVK officials for imparting the vocational training on backyard poultry to them for earning livelihood and nutritional security.
