Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran organized week long vocational training Programme on “Scientific Bee Keeping” at KVK, Tarn Taran under Mini Mission – 1, sponsored by National Bee Keeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) and National Bee Board (NBB). A total number of 25 farmers and farm women from different villages of district Tarn Taran enrolled in this training programme. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Booh, Tarn Taran addressed the trainees regarding importance of beekeeping and emphasized on setting up of beekeeping venture as subsidiary business apart from agriculture and livestock rearing . He urged upon the formulation of FPOs, Self – help group regarding beekeeping. Dr. Gurmeet Singh, DES, FASC, Amritsar discussed in detail regarding diversification of different carps of honey bee management of honey bee colony during different seasons, handling of queen, workers and drone. He also explained about different problems in bees and their preventive strategies. Dr. Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Livestock Production and course coordinator delivered different sermons on relationship between bees and pollination, understanding the honey bee colony and the working of queen, workers and drone bees. An exposure visit of the trainees was organized at Apiary Unit, Department of Entomology, PAU, Ludhiana wherein trainees learned latest aspects about honey bee rearing. Dr. Balwinder Kumar presented his sincere thanks to all the participants in this great success.
