Dairy Farming Training Course Concludes at Vet Varsity Ludhiana

The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized two-week training course for dairy farmers . 16 trainees including 02 women and 14 male participated in this training . The trainees were given basic theoretical as well as practical knowledge about starting a new venture in dairy farming. This whole training program was co-ordinated by Dr. Jaswinder Singh and Dr. Y.S. Jadoun.
Dr. R. K. Sharma, HoD interacted with the trainees and advised them to have proper planning in connection to land, breeding of high yielding dairy animals and balanced feeding and giving more stress on use of Indigenous herbal preparations rather than heavy doses of antibiotics. He also delivered the lectures on identification of sick and healthy animals, appropriate use of antibiotics and care, Artificial Insemination and management of pregnant animals.
Dr. S. K. Kansal, technical co-ordinator, briefed about the course outline of the training to the participants. This training program covered different aspects of dairy farming viz; selection and identification of dairy breeds and breeding strategies, housing management, feeding management, breeding management, general healthcare management, first-aid, integrated farming system, marketing and value addition of dairy produce. The exposure visit of dairy farm, dairy plant, clinics was arranged . Integrated farming system (IFS) unit was also organized to inculcate entrepreneurship and practical skills among the dairy farmers.
Dr. Y S Jadoun, course co-ordinator of training program briefed about various extension activities undertaken by the Veterinary University. 
The valedictory session of the training was chaired by Dr. Satyavan Rampal, Director of Students Welfare-cum-Estate Officer . He interacted with the trainees and motivated them to follow scientific practices. He gave special emphasis upon the need of adopting dairy farming as business venture as Punjab is the breeding tract of dairy animals and the farmers can get much benefit by selling good quality germplasm of dairy animals throughout the country.
