Fish Pickle Preparation demonstrated at KVK Mohali on World Fisheries Day

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, SAS Nagar (Mohali) celebrated World Fisheries Day at its premises under the campaign on Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav. The event was attended by fish farmers and youth of the district. Dr. Vikas Phulia, Assistant Professor (Fisheries) informed the participants that World Fisheries Day is celebrated every year by fishing communities across the world. It highlights the importance of healthy oceans ecosystems and ensuring sustainable stocks of fisheries in the world. During the event, fish pickle preparation was also demonstrated to the participants. Dr. Ajeet Singh, Assistant Professor, COF highlighted the zero-waste fish processing technology developed by GADVASU, Ludhiana. He also encouraged the participants to adopt fish processing and value addition for self-employment. Dr. Parul Gupta mentioned that fish processing is a very remunerative activity and can play an important role in doubling the farmer income, if practiced in a scientific manner.

This demonstration was conducted under the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology- Scheduled Castes Sub-Plan (CIFT-SCSP) sponsored project. Dr. Vikas Phulia, the Nodal Officer/PI of the project apprised that this project aims to develop entrepreneurship skills amongst scheduled castes communities of Punjab through fish processing and value addition. He also informed that a three-day training programme on fish processing and value addition will be organized at KVK Mohali from December 1 to 3, 2021.
