Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran organized awareness camps cum Front Line Demonstration on treatment of paddy straw with urea and molasses for feeding in dairy animals. 100 dairy farmers from different villages of the district Tarn Taran were trained under these programme. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Booh, Tarn Taran discussed that Punjab produces over 20 million tonnes of paddy straw every year, most of which is burnt in fields leading to widespread air pollution. Rather, it can be very effectively utilized as livestock feed which can further curtail the feed expenditure on livestock. He also talked about the different activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendra for socio economic upliftment of the farming community. Dr. Suresh Kumar Assistant Professor (Livestock Production) demonstrated the farmers at four different villages and locations of the district about urea molasses impregnated straw. He guided the farmers that for treatment of 1.0 quintal of paddy straw “Urea 1.0 kg, Molasses 3.0 liter have to be mixed thoroughly and blend with 15-20 liters of water” is recommended to use for paddy straw treatment along with mineral mixture for better results. The products of GADVASU like mineral mixture, Uromin licks and By-pass fat were also displayed for sale to the farmers.
