Vet varsitys KVK Mohali Organizes Workshop on Vegetable Production & Processing

Krishi Vigyan Kendra S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) organized workshop cum Vegetable farmer's Meet on Vegetable Production & Processing.  This workshop was organized in collaboration with APEDA New Delhi and ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana for capacity building of FPO's and farmers for vegetable based export oriented agri supply chain.  Around 200 farmers, scientists, officials, and other stakeholders participated in the workshop. Dr Prakash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana, chaired the workshop as Chief Guest.  In the technical session Dr. Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) and organizing secretary welcomed the guests and gave brief overview of the workshop. He also delivered lecture on importance and scope of protected cultivation technology/terrace gardening and kitchen gardening of vegetables in district Mohali. Dr. Dilpreet Talwar, Extension Scientist from PAU delivered his lecture on vegetable production technologies for higher yield and income enhancement of farmers. Dr. Ravinder Singh Chandi, Senior Entomologist, PAU briefed participants on various pest management techniques in vegetable crops. Dr. Neha Babbar, Scientist, PAU shared her views on post-harvest management of vegetable crops. Dr. Sukhpreet Kaur, Scientist, PAU delivered her talk on processing and preservation of vegetables. Dr. Jaspreet Singh, Horticulture Development Officer, S.A.S. Nagar briefed attendees about department schemes for vegetable growers. Mr. Rattan Singh from PNB shared various schemes of banks for the welfare of farmers to start vegetable farming. Dr. Neelam Chaudhary, Deputy Director & Officer Incharge Regional Plant Quarantine Station, Amritsar shared her views on phyto sanitary requirements for export of fresh fruits and vegetables. Mrs. Rekha Mehta AGM, APEDA awared participants about objectives and schemes of APEDA. Dr Pragya Bhadauria, Scientist ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, shared her views on functioning of KVK's and their liaison with ICAR for welfare of farming community. Dr. R.K.Raheja, Chief Agriculture Officer cum PD ATMA, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) who attended workshop as Guest of Honour stressed on importance of vegetable farming and appealed farmers to adopt crop diversification. Dr. Prakash Singh Brar guided and motivated participants on role of vegetable farming, potential of vegetable processing and export to enhance farmers income and shared his valuable experiences with farmers. He asked farmers to take maximum benefit of various governmental schemes and assured them support from KVK and university.  Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Director, KVK Mohali thanked all the participants who made this workshop successful and assured them of full cooperation from Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mohali for their farming issues. Various companies and self help groups also displayed their exhibition during the workshop
