KVK Mohali organizes campaign on Nutrition Month and Tree plantation

KVK Mohali in collaboration with IFFCO organized  awareness programme on Nutrition month and Tree plantation at Village Dusarna on 17.09.2021. This programme aimed at providing scientific knowledge on importance off millet based cereals and nutrition gardening to the farming community. While inaugurating the programme Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Director KVK S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) motivated farmers on nutritional importance of millets like Bajra, Jawar and Ragi. He urged farmers to grow millets along with wheat and Rice for better health and diversification. Dr Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) delivered lecture on layout and management of nutritional garden. He explained importance of fruits and vegetable on human health and well being. Dr Parul Gupta Assistant Professor (Home Science) delivered lecture on importance of nutri-cereals on human health and various recipes to participants. She told that millets provide three to four times more nutrition than other cereals and should be included in daily diet. Dr Pawan Kumar, Field Officer from IFFCO shared various schemes of IFFCO for the welfare of farmers and awared farmers on Nano-Urea and its application in various crops. Mr. Mohd. Dilshad from IFFCO told participants about various agrochemicals which can be beneficial for crops. During this event around 200 nursery plants and 100 vegetable seed kits were distributed to farmers. To aware farmers about tree plantation one Moringa tree was also planted at premises of Gurudwara Sahib of the village. To create awareness on millet based products a nutri-thali (comprising Sawa khichadi, sawa idli, Kangni laddu etc) was also distributed to all attendees including women and girls. At the end of programme village Sarpanch and progressive farmers thanked KVK faculty for successful conduction of programme and assured future cooperation.
