Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran organized a field day on management of fruit fly in Cucurbit crops under the project entitled "Development of low cost fruit fly traps for cucurbit vegetables and its demonstration at farmer's field in border area of district Tarn Taran in Punjab" funded by NABARD at village Kasel, Tarn Taran. Dr. Rajiv Siwach, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Regional Office, Punjab & Chandigarh UT was chief guest of the programme. Sh. R.K. Johari, AGM, NABARD, Punjab, Sh. Jaskirat Singh, AGM, NABARD, Amritsar & Tarn Taran, HDO's and more than 30 vegetables growers from different villages of Tarn Taran were also present in this programme. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director, KVK Tarn Taran welcomed the chief guest, other dignitaries and farmers. He told that KVK is providing trainings on different aspects of agriculture and livestock farmers for uplifting the farmers economic status substantially. He urged farmers to adopt low cost fruit fly technology in cucurbit field to reduce dependence on costly pesticide. Dr. Nirmal Singh, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) & PI of the project briefed about the different activities carried under the project. Farmers from all blocks of district Tarn Taran were selected for implementation of project. He said that after the installation of low cost fruit fly trap farmers are satisfied with its performance and demand is increasing day by day. Dr. Rajiv Siwach monitored the activities of the project and interacted with the farmers and took views for successful implementation of the project from farmers. He said that his organization will happy to work with KVK in future also. The chief guest also visited the climate resilient shed constructed under "Climate Resilient Livestock Production System in Punjab funded by NABARD. In the event, the literature on fruit fly management in cucurbit crops and organic input production was also released by the chief guest. KVK also displayed exhibitions of different activities. Dr. Nirmal Singh thanked the NABARD team and farmers for their active participation and making this event a grand success.
