KVK, SAS Nagar in collaboration with District Fisheries Department and Godrej Agrovet Ltd. celebrated National Fish Farmers
Day-2021 under the theme ‘Ecosystem Management for Sustainable Fisheries’ as part of India @75-Bharat ka Amrut Mahotsav. The program held in the conference hall of Mohali Industrial Association was attended by 28 participants while invited guests and resource persons joined the event virtually. Dr. Vikas Phulia, the organising secretary of this program welcomed the guests and informed that this day is commemorated in remembrance of scientists Dr. H.L. Chaudhury and Dr. K.H. Alikunhi who had invented induced breeding technology of carps on this day way back in 1957.Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Director, KVK Mohali delivered the inaugural address wherein he highlighted the contribution of fisheries to national GDP. Dr. M.D. Ansal, Dean, COF, GADVASU delivered a talk on present status of fisheries and future roadmap to attain blue revolution in Punjab. She also cautioned fish farmers to keep strict adherence to biosecurity measures to avert any sustainability issues in future. Dr. Prabjeet Singh discussed the strategies to make Punjab self-reliant in fish seed production. Dr. Ferosekhan S. from ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar elaborated the grow out practices and prospects of catfish farming in Punjab. Senior Fisheries Officer, Sh. J.S. Gill provided information regarding various financial provisions under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojna. Dr. N.K. Chadha, Principal Scientist & Head, Aquaculture Division, ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai was the guest of honour on this occasion. In his remarks, Dr. Chadha touched upon various aspects of aquaculture and presented a strategic framework required to make Punjab self-reliant and a major commercial hub of fish farming in the country. The chief-guest of program, Dr. P.S. Brar, DEE, GADVASU shared greetings with fish farmers on the occasion of NFFD and also highlighted the activities of GADVASU in the development of fish farming in the state. The program concluded with vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Phulia.
