On the occasion of World Bee Day, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sahibjada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) organized Virtual Training Programme for beekeepers on to create awareness regarding important role of honeybees in agriculture. During this programme, Associate Director (Training), KVK, S.A.S. Nagar, Dr. Parminder Singh encouraged the participants to adopt beekeeping for food security and to produce quality honey. While sharing the history of World Bee Day, he mentioned that we should acknowledge the role of bees and other pollinators in the ecosystem. He also shared the information on marketing of honey and other hive products. He emphasized them to come together in this occupation and associate themselves on a big platform to get maximum benefit. He also stressed to register themselves with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for selling their honey and its products to prevent adulteration. honey, income from by-products of beekeeping such as bees wax, royal jelly, bee venom, propolis, pollens. She shared the information that honeybees play a vital role in our lives by pollinating flowering plants (Crops/Vegetables/Fruits). She also provided detailed information on different types of honeybees, their behaviour and honey production. Dr. Parul Gupta delivered lecture on nutritional benefits of honey. She stressed on preparing value added products from honey such as orange/lemon honey squash, honey jam, granola bars etc. to earn more profit. She also shared different recipes of honey for skin care. During this event, 21 participants joined and shared their views regarding behaviour of honeybees and beekeeping.
