Dr. Harish Nayyar Special Secretary, Agriculture, Government of Punjab visits KVK, Tarn Taran

Dr. Harish Nayyar, Special Secretary, Agriculture, Department of Agriculture & Farmer Welfare, Government of Punjab visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran. A total number of 60 farmers participated in this programme. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Tarn Taran welcomed Dr. Harish Nayyar, Sh. K.S. Saini, Chief Agriculture Officer, ADOs, Sarpanches and the farmers. Dr. Harish Nayyar took keen interest in the crop residue management project, demonstration units and various extension activities organized by KVK. He suggested the farmers to practice organic & natural farming in their fields for sustainable food production. He elaborated about the various agricultural projects by Government of Punjab with the farmers. He motivated farmers to form Farmer Producer Prganization (FPO) for economical farming. During the COVID-19 Pandamic, farmers' of the state helped each other to manage the crop produce in cooperative way. There is need to set up food industry and better marketing channel in the border area, he said. Dr. Kumar said that KVK is focusing in agriculture sector involving livestock, fisheries, apiary, integrated farming system (IFS), and value addition. KVK is working for strengthening of the small and marginal farmers of the district. He also said that there is close collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Tarn Taran and both have conducted trainings in the field of dairy, fisheries, piggery and value addition of livestock produce. He appreciated the efforts of KVK for uplifting the economic status by providing skill development training to the resource poor farmers. Farmers interacted with the dignitaries and discussed problems faced by them in the field of agriculture and dairy. Dr. Nayyar distributed the certificates to the trainees who were trained at KVK funded by ATMA scheme.
