"Swachhta Pakhwada" was organized by KVK Tarn Taran and numerous activities under this cleanliness campaign were
conducted from 16-31 December, 2020 in order to aware the masses about hygiene both at residential and work places. The whole staff of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, has actively participated in the programme. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director (Training), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran appealed farmers to maintain their surrounding clean and green. About 250 farmers and faculty members extended their valuable participation during this event under Swachhta Pakhwada. Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon, Assistant Professor (Home Science) and Dr. Bhanu Prakash. Ch, Assistant Professor (Fisheries) with the message "Lets' keep our surroundings tidy" coordinated the above-mentioned event. Banners in regional language were displayed at KVK campus and other prominent places such as petrol pump, schools and tourist places. A pledge regarding maintaining hygiene both at our whereabouts and public places such as community health centres, schools, bus stands, etc. was taken up by all the participants. Further, Dr. Suresh Kumar, Animal Scientist discussed about importance of cleanliness in our daily life, bearing the present corona virus pandemic in mind. Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon promulgated awareness regarding advantages of using jute bag over polythene bag among village residents. Alongside, Dr. Anil Kumar demonstrated the beneficiaries regarding procedure and uses of vermicompost while targeting the theme utilization of organic waste to wealth. A lecture cum group discussion was also organized for anganwadi workers for the various strategies to manage the waste produced during cultivation. Mrs. Baljeet Kaur, Child Development Project Officer, Patti stated that the anganwadi workers should ensure eco-friendly techniques of kitchen gardening. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran also celebrated Kisan Diwas at KVK, Tarn Taran under the theme "Lets' convert the waste to wealth". Besides these, group discussions on establishment of integrated livestock entrepreneurships was conducted. S. Gurbachan Singh, from village Burj Deva Singh and S. Balkar Singh from village Booh Havelian motivated the farmers to grow their surroundings through learning from the scientists. Farmers from village Kairon, Sangwan, Booh Havelian, Burj Deva Singh and Harike shared their experience on swachhta activities at their village and KVK team applauded their contribution for the success of swachhta campaign. A pledge was also taken by the participants to plant five trees individually in coming year for better surroundings .
