KVK Booh Celebrates Kisan Diwas

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran celebrated Kisan Diwas to appreciate the farmers as they are the backbone of the country . Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director (Training) while highlighting the importance of this day said that this day is celebrated in the memory of India's fifth Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh as he framed popular welfare schemes for farmers of the country. Dr. Kumar emphasized that KVK will work for the welfare of small & marginal farmer of this boarder district for making them self reliant. The event was co-ordinated by Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon, Assistant Professor, Home Science and Dr. Bhanu Prakash. Ch, Assistant Professor, Fisheries. During this programme, around 50 farmers and farm women from five villages participated and interacted with KVK team. Dr. Anil Kumar, Soil Scientist shared the information on maintenance of soil status through using vermicompost. Besides, Dr. P.K. Dhillon discussed the role of value addition in income generation by minimizing food losses. Besides this, group discussion on establishment of integrated livestock entrepreneurships was conducted by Dr. Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Animal Science. KVK Scientists interacted with the farmers and answered their queries regarding the setting up of a new venture. Progressive farmers Sh. Gurbachan Singh, Sh. Balkar Singh and Sh. Mukhtar Singh motivated the farmers to enhance agriculture & livestock ventures through learning from the KVK. Farmers also shared their experience on Swacchta activities at their villages by working voluntary to clean public places such as bus stop and religious places, at regular intervals. KVK team applauded their contribution for the success of Kisan Diwas & Swacchta campaign. Dr. PK Dhillon thanked all the participants for sparing their valuable time to conduct this programme.
