Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) organized “Five Days Vocational Training Programme on Advanced
Techniques for In-Situ Crop Residue Management” at village Naglian. This training programme was organized to develop the awareness among farmers for In-situ paddy straw management to protect soil fertility and clean environment. Total 25 farmers took part in this training. Dr. Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director (Course Director), KVK, Mohali and Dr. Shashi Pal & Dr. Parul Gupta, Course Coordinators organized this training programme on crop residue management. Dr Yashwant Singh stressed the importance of In-situ paddy straw management among the farmers. He also advised farmers to use paddy straw as bedding materials in livestock farming system. Dr. Shashi Pal, Assistant Professor, Livestock Production put the importance of paddy straw in feeding of dairy animals and to cut down the feeding cost. Paddy straw can be treated with urea and for better utilization in livestock feeding. Dr. Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) advised the farmers for mulching of paddy straw in horticulture crops, and also in nursery raising and protection from frost. Dr. Navjot Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) guided the use of Happy Seeder to sow wheat in the field without burning paddy stable and he also emphasis on zero burning of paddy straw. Dr. Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor (Home Sci.) delivered lecture on management of rice straw. She also stressed on bad effects of paddy straw burning on human health. Dr. Harmeet Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant protection) delivered her lecture to protect wheat crop from rodents attack. She also guided the farmers regarding pest and disease management in paddy crop. Dr. O P Sandhu, Assistant Professor (Soil Sci.) KVK, Ropar emphasized on the proper use of different machinery which incorporate the paddy straw in field to better cultivation of wheat crop. Sh. Ravinder Singh, progressive youth farmer along with farmers thanked KVK faculty for organizing such an excellent and interactive mode of training programme.
