World Soil Day celebrated by KVK, Tarn Taran

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran organised a Farmers Awareness Camp on the occasion of World Soil Day on 05.12.2019  under the theme “Stop Soil Erosion, Save Our Future” at village Ghariala of District Tarn Taran wherein 200 farmers  from different villages participated. Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director KVK Tarn Taran highlighted the efforts of KVK in improving soil health and urged the farmers to follow KVK & university recommendations for scientific management of soil health for sustainable crop production. He suggested the farmers to plant more trees to stop soil erosion.  Dr. Navjot Singh Brar gave detailed information regarding soil testing and integrated nutrient management in different crops. He said that in-situ management of paddy straw in field helps in building up of soil fertility, improve soil productivity and decrease environment pollution. Dr. Nirmal Singh discussed about nutrient management in vegetable crops and fruit crops. Dr. Hardial Singh, Ex-Deputy Director (Horticulture) gave information regarding various products obtained from medicinal plants and their role in improving human health.  Farmers who have done exemplary work in paddy straw management were honoured at this event. An exhibition of new technologies in managing soil health was put by KVK and Literature developed by KVK Tarn Taran & GADVASU, Ludhiana was distributed to the farmers. Farmers took pledge on this World Soil Day to keep their soil healthy and to produce quality food.
