KVK Mohali Organized Kisan Mela under Jal Shakti Abhiyan and Block Level Awareness Camp on CRM

In a bid to aware the farming community in the district about the ill effects of stubble burning and judicious use of water, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sahibjada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) organized district level mela under Jal Shakti Abhiyan and block level awareness camp on Crop Residue Management at Derabassi. The program was attended by several farmers and farm women from nearby villages, officials from agriculture and allied departments and B.Sc. Agriculture students from Universal Group of Institutions, Derabassi. The chief guest of the event, Dr. Harish Kumar Verma, Director Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana in his remarks appealed farmers to properly manage crop residue in order to maintain soil productivity and use water judiciously for domestic and agricultural purposes. He ensured farmers for full support of university as and when needed. Dr. Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director (KVK, Mohali) discussed the issue of stubble burning in detail and challenges being faced by farming community. In the technical session many experts shared their knowledge on various aspects of soil and water conservation. Dr. Parul Gupta told the gathering that a lot of water is wasted while conducting various household activities and emphasized that water can be saved if small changes can be made at household levels. Dr. Munish Sharma provided information about drip and sprinkler irrigation including underground pipeline system for judicious use of water in agriculture. Dr. J. S. Hundal shared knowledge regarding utilization of paddy straw for livestock as fodder after treating it with urea. Dr. Priyanka Suryavanshi discussed about various machineries required for in-situ management of straw.

On this occasion, various line departments such as agriculture, horticulture, dairy technology; private companies such as Goodwill, Advanta, Kalson industries, Setco industries and Mahindra Swaraj put their exhibitions. College of Dairy Science & Technology, Department of Animal Nutrition and Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension from GADVASU also displayed various farmer’s centric technologies and literature in the exhibition. Dr. Vimal Sharma, Senior Veterinary Officer and Sh. J.S. Brar, Block Agriculture Officer, Derabassi were felicitated as guest of honour and appreciation awards were given to experts who delivered lectures. The stage was managed by Dr. Harmeet Kaur while vote of thanks was given by Dr. Munish Sharma
