Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mohali of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Ludhiana organized One week vocational training on horticulture entitled “Scientific Vegetable Farming” at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A. S. Nagar (Mohali) under the guidance of Dr Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director (KVK Mohali). Twenty one progressive farmers and rural youth took part in this training programme. Inaugurating the programme Dr Yashwant Singh motivated farmers to adopt crop diversification and start entrepreneurship. Dr Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor (Horticulture), Coordinator Training gave detailed lecture and practical exposure on various techniques of growing various vegetable crops in kitchen gardens as well as in fields. He discussed about various techniques of nursery raising, protected cultivation, cultivation of winter vegetables and cultivation in low tunnels. Dr. Priyanka Suryavanshi AP (Agronomy) delivered lecture on vermicompost preparation and organic farming of vegetables. Dr Harmeet Kaur, AP (Plant Protection) gave lecture on insect and disease management in vegetable crops. Dr. Nirmal Singh, AP (Hort.) of KVK Tarn Taran delivered lecture on production practices of cucurbits and Seed production. Dr Sanjeev Ahuja, AP (Hort.) from KVK Ropar shared his views on cultivation of summer vegetables and kitchen gardening. Dr Shashipal, AP (LPM) delivered lecture on integration of livestock with horticulture. Dr Parul Gupta, AP (Home Science) delivered lecture on post-harvest management of vegetables and value addition. Trainees were taken for exposure visit near Anandpur Sahib where Prof Kamal of GTB College shown them various techniques used in polynet house cultivation. Progressive farmers Tarwinder Singh, Bhupender Singh, Tarlochan Singh etc. shared their experiences with the participants and thanked KVK faculty for this training programme.
