In order to cater the aspirations of farmers for adopting diversification in agriculture, a 
one week vocational training on Scientific Fish Farming was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mohali. In total, 14 farmers including youths completed the training successfully. While inauguring the training, Dr. Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director, KVK Mohali and training course director, discussed about vast and untapped potential of fish farming as an enterprise in Punjab state. Dr. Vikas Phulia, Assistant Professor (Fisheries) highlighted the course curriculum and delivered series of lectures such as site selection and pond construction, species selection, pre-stocking, stocking and post-stocking management, nursery management of carp seed, water quality, feeding and health management, integrated fish farming, advanced aquaculture technologies such as bio-flock technology and re-circulatory aquaculture system etc.
Dr. Priyanka Suryavanshi, Asstt. Professor (Agronomy) discussed the cultivation 
technology technique of Azolla standardized by GADVASU, Ludhiana and its nutritive value for fish feed formulation. Dr. Shashi Pal stressed upon integration of poultry with fish farming for enhancing farm income. Dr. Yashwant Singh elaborated integration of dairy, goat and pig farming with aquaculture for waste management and increased production from farm area.
Dr. Ajeet Singh, Assistant Professor from College of Fisheries, Ludhiana discussed in detail regarding fish processing and value addition and encouraged trainees to adopt value addition as business opportunity. He also briefed about breeding and seed production carps.
Invited expert from Fisheries College, Ludhiana; Dr. Sachin Khairnar shared his knowledge on ornamental fish breeding and farming. He said that considering the minimal share of India to global export 
of ornamental fishes, there lies huge opportunities for developing it as an enterprise in general in India and in particular in Punjab.
During the trainings, farmers were also shown various video documentaries viz. fish farming developed by ICAR-CIEF, Mumbai, ornamental fish farming and aquarium fabrication. An exposure visit of trainees was organised to fish farm (located at Chamkaur Sahib) of progressive fish farmer, Sh. Amarpreet Singh Hansrao (2019 CM awardee) who is practicing integrated farming involving piggery, fishery, agriculture, poultry and biogas production. He also shared his success story with fellow trainees and motivated them to adopt fish farming. Dr. Phulia demonstrated the analyses of water quality parameters using portable field kits at the farm of Sh. Hansrao.
