Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Booh, Tarn Taran organized field day cum awareness programme under Cluster Frontline Demonstrations on Oilseed at village Jindawala, Tarn Taran. The main theme of the programme was to aware the farmers regarding the processing and marketing of Canola sarson. S. Bhupinder Singh Padda, Member IMC-ICAR was chief guest of the programme. Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director, KVK Tarn Taran welcomed the Chief Guest and dignitaries from different institutes and organizations and highlighted the mandate and activities of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra. He also enlightened the importance of Canola Day event. He told that with the technical guidance from KVK, farmer across different villages had sown Gobhi Sarson Canola -7 as frontline demonstrations under scheme Cluster FLDs on Oilseed funded by ICAR.
Dr Surinder Sandhu from PAU, Ludhiana elaborated the detailed processing of canola oil. She stressed on the beneficial effects of canola sarson on human health and its importance for person suffering from heart problems. Dr Virender Sardana from oilseed section PAU, Ludhiana elaborated the detailed scientific cultivation practices of canola sarson and other important oilseed crops. Dr Parminder Kaur from FASC, PAU, Tarn Taran told about the insect pest and disease control in oilseed crops. Dr Anil Kumar, Mr Navjot Singh Brar and Mr. Nirmal Singh also shared their views with farmers on different aspects of oilseed crops cultivation and stressed on inclusion of oilseed crop in cropping system in rotation. They also enlightened the importance of Gobhi Sarson in crop diversification. S. Bhupinder Singh Padda, Member IMC-ICAR praised the efforts of KVK for motivating farmers towards crop diversification and organizing a wonderful programme on processing of canola Sarson. The farmers who are cultivating canola sarson from 3-4 years were also honoured by KVK. The dignitaries also visited exhibition and stalls put by other companies. The exhibits displayed information though informative and useful literature and display charts, to the farmers. The Canola Day was useful in dissipating the information on Oilseed crops especially Canola Gobhi Sarson to the visiting farmers through the invited experts and speakers from respective fields.
