Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Booh, Tarn Taran organized a one day 
Refresher training course on ‘Soil Health Management for Sustainable Agriculture’ for field functionaries and official of Department of Agriculture of district Tarn Taran at KVK Campus. The Agriculture Development Officer, Agriculture Sub Inspector and Block Technology Manager working under State Department of Agriculture and ATMA Scheme, Tarn Taran participated in the training course. The main emphasis of the programme was to address the issues related with soil health and crop productivity. Dr Anil Kumar, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) and Course Coordinator welcomed the delegates arrived from different blocks of Tarn Taran. Speaking in the inaugural session, Dr SS Hassan, Scientist (Fisheries), highlighted the 
importance of soil health for sustainable agriculture and stressed that with increasing population, there is lot of pressure to enhance crop productivity to meet out food demand and ensure food security, which cannot be achieved without proper soil management. Dr Anil Kumar discussed about ‘Centrally sponsored Scheme on Soil Health Card launched by Government of India and highlighted its need and expected outcome. Dr Kumar emphasized that sole application of chemical fertilizers in imbalanced manner and more than recommended doses not only deteriorating the soil health but, also inducing adverse impact on crop productivity, contaminating water bodies and also affecting human health.
Mr. Navjot Singh Brar, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) shared his views on advanced technology of crop management and 
their beneficial impacts on soil properties and crop productivity and quality. He also highlighted the adverse impact of poor quality water on soil properties and suggested remedies to tackle problem induced due to poor quality of water. Mr. Nirmal Singh, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) highlighted the importance of micronutrients in balanced fertilization. They further discussed their deficiency and corrective measures.
Dr Anil Kumar proposed vote of thanks to the participants. He also highlighted contribution of Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training) for providing full co-operation and guidance for conducting this training programme. The participants appreciated the efforts of the KVK Scientists for organizing the said refresher course.
