Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar Organizes Five Days Vocational Training on Integrated Farming

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has organized five days on-campus training course from 25th to 29th July, 2016 on Integrated Farming under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna scheme for farmers belonging to scheduled caste community. Sixteen villagers belonging to village Pallanpur and Dusarna under Majri block participated in this training. On the inaugural day of training, training course director Dr. Yashwant Singh (Deputy Director, KVK) and training coordinator Sh. Vikas Phulia, Assistant Professor, Fisheries encouraged the farmers regarding diversification in agriculture and animal husbandry practices and adoption of other subsidiary enterprises viz. fish farming, bee-keeping, horticulture, pig farming and goat farming etc. for additional income and employment generation. Dr. Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor, Horticulture briefed farmers regarding horticulture crops and cultivation of vegetables and flowers in polyhouse. Dr. Randhir Singh, Assistant Professor, Livestock Production delivered lectures on prospects of pig and goat farming in the region. Dr. Harmeet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Plant Protection provided an insight to trainees regarding benefits of honey bees, honey and seasonal management of honey bees. She also delivered a talk on judicious use of pesticides in agriculture. During the training, farmers were also shown various film documentaries. On the fourth day of training programme, an exposure visit was arranged to a progressive farmer’s fish and vegetable farm situated at village Kishnpura, block Derabassi of the district.  The accompanying scientists Sh. Vikas Phulia and Dr. Munish Sharma provided on-farm information to farmers regarding pond construction, carp culture and cultivation method of seasonal vegetables.

Dr. Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director, KVK apprised the farmers regarding various breeds of dairy animals, their characteristics and construction of sheds for efficient housing management of dairy animals. S. Ratan Singh from Punjab National Bank provided information regarding various banking financial schemes available for the farmers and the criteria to avail loan under those schemes. During valedictory ceremony, entire KVK team was present and farmers were given certificates for successfully completing training programme. Area specific mineral mixture for dairy animals and vegetables seed kits were also distributed to farmers free of cost.
