Krishi Vigyan Kendra, GADVASU, Booh, Tarn Taran organized a five days vocational training ‘Integrated Pig and Fish Farming’ from 05.05.2017 – 11.05.2017 at its Campus. Twenty four farmers (22 males and 2 females) of different villages of Distt. Tarn Taran had been participated in this training course. Scientific knowledge on various aspects of pig and fish farming was devised in this training for skill development and self entrepreneurship of farmers for their economic upliftment.
Speaking on the inaugural session of the training programme, Deputy Director (Training) and Course Director, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dr. Balwinder Kumar stressed upon the development of skill of the rural population of the Tarn Taran. Such type of trainings help farmers, farm women, and rural youth in developing the agricultural entrepreneurship through livestock diversification. Status and scenario of pig and fish farming in India and especially in Punjab were discussed with farmers. Dr. Kumar also highlighted various facilities developed by GADVASU and KVK, Tarn Taran.
Course Coordinators, Dr Shashi Pal and Dr. S.S. Hassan discussed the important topics of different aspects of pig and fish farming. The broader topics covered in the training course by course coordinators include preparation of pig house and fish pond, feed management for pig and fish, different species of pig and fish, construction of pig house, fodder/feed management for pigs, marketing of fish and pig, value addition of pig and fish products, integration of pig and fish enterprises, etc. The KVK’s faculty also covered other issues such as loan facilities by government for farmers related to pig and fish farming.
Dr SS Hassan and Dr Shashi Pal proposed the vote of thanks at the valedictory function and thanked the trainees and visiting guest and faculty for their efforts to make this training programme a success. Trainees were happy to get up-to-date knowledge about the integrated pig and fish farming and showed their desire to start these ventures.
