Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana conducted a camp to check infertility issues of dairy animals at Village Dhaner under Farmer FIRST Project. It was organized with the guidance of Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education-cum-Nodal Officer of Farmer FIRST Project and Dr. Parminder Singh, Principal Investigator (PI) of the Project. The camp was organized by Dr. Rajesh Kasrija, Co PI, Dr. Bilawal Singh, Co PI and Dr. Gurpreet Kour Tulla. 12 dairy animals including cows and buffaloes were treated for infertility.
Dr. Rajesh and Dr. Bilawal examined the dairy animals and provided them with requisite treatment. The dairy farmers were also informed about the next protocol to be followed as a part of treatment along with awareness regarding the causes of infertility. Dr. Rajesh underlined the economic losses due to infertility in the terms of milk production, delay in calving, and overall productive life of the dairy animals. Dr. Bilawal advised the farmers regarding the reproductive management of the dairy animals to reduce the chances of infertility especially in the summer season. He further highlighted the role of heat stress in inducing infertility and anestrous in dairy animals.
The dairy farmers were provided with literature developed under the project regarding reproductive management of dairy animals. The farmers showed their overall satisfaction for the camp. In this series of infertility camps, the next camp will be organized in the same village in the coming week. Dr. Parkash Singh Brar advised farmers to take maximum benefit from these camps for the better health of the animals.
