Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana conferred Chief Minister awards to four livestock farmers on the 24 th of March, first day of Pashu Palan Mela. These awards were conferred in an impressive function by Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University. Deans, Directors and Officers of University and State were also witnessed at the ceremony. Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education said that GADVASU is making all out efforts for the development of the livestock sector in the state by strengthening its extension programmes. In order to motivate various categories of livestock farmers, the university organizes innovative competitions by assessing the extent and impact of adoption of these technologies in improving the productivity and profitability of different livestock farming systems.
He revealed that in the buffalo category Sh. Gurdev Singh S/O Sh. Kashmir Singh Vill. Fatehgarh Sabhra, Distt. Firozepur got the award. He started dairy farming in 1994. Now he has 17 animals. One of his buffalo produced 23.5 litre milk in a day. He has a conventional but very comfortable and airy shed with fans and foggers..
In the goat farming category Sh. Balwinder Singh Mann S/O Sh. Darshan Singh, Vill.a has b Tungwali Distt. Bathinda achieved the award. He started goat farming in 2017. Now he has 379 head count. He is producing 2.5-3 litre milk per day per goat.
Sh. Khushwant Singh S/O S. Swarn Singh, Vill. Chhangla, Distt. Hoshiarpur earned the award in the fish farming category. He started fish farming in 1997 with 5 acres of land and now has increased his farms to 28 acres area. He is doing fish farming in a scientific manner.
In Piggery category Sh. Amandeep Singh S/O S. Hardev Singh, Vill. Bhai Desa, Distt. Mansa was decorated with the award. Now he has 165 pigs. He has developed modern and comfortable sheds. He prepares to feed on the recommendations of university experts.
Dr. Brar informed that these awards carry plaque, shawl and citation along with cash.
