Quality milk production is the future of dairy industry – Vet Varsity Experts

The Directorate of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana organized a training workshop on “Quality Milk Production” for the officers of Dairy Development Department in collaboration with ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone-1, Ludhiana. Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education in his welcome address said that officers of the department have contributed to the milk revolution in the state through capacity building of dairy farmers.  The field functionaries should also motivate the farmers for a market driven approach to production coupled with a focus on quality.  
S. Kashmir Singh, Joint Director, Dairy Development thanked the Vice Chancellor for organizing a workshop for the officers of the department. He said that the officers of the department will be able to update themselves from the experiences of the researchers through the workshop and share it with farmers.
Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, the chief guest of the workshop said that extension education is the need of the hour to empower the farmers with knowledge for increasing their income. The field functionaries must work in close association with researchers to acquire new skills and knowledge. He pressed upon the need to motivate the farmers to work on quality of milk to reap the benefits from dairy farming since there is an increasing awareness regarding food safety.
Dr. R S Grewal discussed the importance of fodder preservation in the form of silage and hay. He explained the methodology for silage making and also shared parameters of good quality silage.  Dr. Jaspal Singh Hundal discussed the use of paddy straw in animal production. Dr. Parminder Singh apprised the participants about the regulations governing feed manufacturing. Dr. Rekha Chawla and Dr. Venus Bansal discussed opportunities in value addition and prevention of milk adulteration. Training was coordinated by Dr. Jaswinder Singh and Dr. Arunbeer Singh.
