Vet Varsity organizes seminar for progressive pig farmers

A seminar for progressive pig farmers of Punjab was held at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana. Pig farmers from different districts of the state gathered for this event. Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU said that periodic meetings of progressive farmers provide an opportunity for association between scientists and farmers for advancement of the livestock sector. At the same time, the scientists can understand the problems faced by the farmers more closely.
The seminar was coordinated by Dr. Jaswinder Singh and Dr. Arunbeer Singh. Dr. Jaswinder Singh welcomed the participants and introduced the speakers to the gathering. He added that the objective of this seminar is advancements in pig sector. Dr. Rajnish Kumar Sharma, from the Centre for One Health discussed prevention and control measures against the spread of zoonotic diseases between pigs and humans. He emphasized that the consumption of processed meat products is increasing in India.  Pig farmers must educate the consumers to clear the myths regarding meat consumption for adding value to processed pig meat products. Dr. Ashwani Kumar Singh shared his experience of the pig industry in Sweden and explained the technological advancements in pig farming in Europe. Dr. Jaswinder Singh said that adoption of technology is crucial for increasing the production potential of pigs. Farmers must focus on this aspect of farming for better returns from pigs. Dr. Arunbeer Singh proposed the vote of thanks.
