Climate smart technologies the way forward for dairy farming- Vet Varsity

The Directorate of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana conducted training on “Climate Smart Dairy Farming” for the officials of the Dairy Development Department of Punjab. 
Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Varsity said that earth’s atmosphere is warming up at an alarming rate causing cataclysmic changes in the environment which are likely to cause production losses in dairy animals. It is important to introduce environment friendly technologies in dairy farming to maintain the productivity of dairy animals. 
Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education said that climate change is a major concern worldwide for all the stakeholders of the dairy industry. Animal health experts have associated the recent outbreaks in livestock with weather changes. Increasing temperature is also expected to result in poor reproduction and milk production losses in dairy animals. Therefore, it is important to sensitize field functionaries about different strategies so that they can guide the farmers on the impending challenges of climate change. In the technical session, experts from the university discussed the importance of adaptation and mitigation measures essential in dairy farms. 
Dr. Randhir Singh, talked about the major effects of adverse climatic conditions on livestock health. Dr. Ravikant Gupta, shared recent innovations in automation and designs of animal sheds for promoting animal welfare. Dr. Parminder Singh, discussed the positive effects of precise nutrition planning on milk production. Dr. Rajneesh, talked about waste management methods to reduce pollution from dairy farms and use farm waste as a resource. Dr. Navjot Singh Brar, discussed improved agronomic practices for efficient resource utilization in fodder production for dairy animals. Dr. Arunbeer Singh coordinated the training in an organized manner
