Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran organized a one-week Vocational Training Programme on “Scientific Bee Keeping” at KVK, Tarn T
aran under Mini Mission – 1, sponsored by National Bee Keeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) and National Bee Board (NBB). 25 farmers and farm women from different villages of district Tarn Taran enrolled in this training programme. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Booh, Tarn Taran addressed the trainees regarding importance of beekeeping and urged upon the adoption of bee farming as entrepreneurship and also discussed about the importance of sweet revolution by adopting bee farming. Yield of many crops get also augmented by adoption of bee keeping as subsidiary units at the farms. Further, he urged upon the formulation of FPOs, Self – help group regarding beekeeping so that this venture can be made more business oriented.
Dr. Gurmeet Singh, DES, FASC, Amritsar discussed in detail regarding handling and
working of queen, workers and drone bees. He also explained about different problems in bees and their preventive measures. Dr. Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Livestock Production and course coordinator delivered different sermons on relationship between bees and pollination, understanding the honey bee colony and the working of queen, workers and drone bees. Dr. Amit Choudhary,Entomologist, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana discussed about management of honey bee colony during different seasons, Pest management and mites’ problems in bees.
