A Training Workshop for the livestock scientists of KVKs of Punjab on "Scientific Interventions and Technology in Sustainable Livestock Production" was conducted by Directorate of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education welcomed the guests and the participants.
Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University and Chief Guest, while addressing the participants stressed that KVKs should approach the farmers to deliver latest knowhow. He stated that the low input technologies viz. poultry farming and goat farming can alleviate poverty and ensure livelihood security to the farmers. He added that the livestock is the pride of a farmer which has the potential to uplift its socio-economic status.
Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director ATARI Zone-I, highlighted the importance of livestock for enhancing farmers' income. He stated that fish production, goat production and integrated farming system have the potential in substantially increasing farmers' income. He added that such workshops and interface meetings add to the subject matter of the scientists along with coordination.
Dr. Ashok Kumar, Director of Extension Education PAU, stated that PAU and GADVASU are integral part of each other and their coordinated efforts are yielding fruitful results for the farmers of Punjab. He highlighted that the needs of the farmers shall be assessed and efforts shall be directed to meet the needs.
A Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Pig Farming was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor along with other guests which has been developed by Dr. Amandeep Singh and Dr. Parkash Singh Brar. The training included expert lectures on feeding of layers, goat production, Total Mixed Ration, shrimp farming along with demonstration on mozzarella and yogurt preparation. The training workshop was coordinated by Dr. Arunbeer Singh and Dr. Amandeep Singh from Directorate of Extension Education
