Farmers’-Scientist Interaction on conservation agriculture organized KVK

Farmers’-Scientist interaction programme on conservation agriculture was organized at village Wara Sher Singh, Block Bhikhiwind, Tarn Taran. About 85 farmers participated in the event. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director (T), KVK, Tarn Taran  welcomed all the farmers of the village and briefed about conservation agriculture. He told that conservation agriculture is a new face of agriculture that not only help mitigating environmental and water pollution but also reduce dependence on costly fertilizer input, enhance microbial population in soil, improve soil health and crop productivity. The crop residue management practices such as sowing of wheat with happy seeder, zero tillage improve soil structure and conserve soil moisture as well. He said that conservation agriculture also reduces weed incidence and ensure healthy crops. Dr Anil Kumar, soil expert at KVK said that long term retention of crop residue on soil surface enhance organic matter in soil and improve overall physical, chemical and biological properties. Conservation agriculture also reduce irrigation requirement as they keep soil profile moist for long time. He further discussed about nutrient deficiency symptoms and their corrective measure in rabi season crops. Dr Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor (LP) discussed about the utilization of paddy straw as bedding material for animals and its benefits in reducing the incidence of mastitis in dairy animals. The experts also inspected the wheat crop sown with happy and super seeder at the farmers’ field. Farmers of village thanked team KVK for organizing farmer's scientist interaction at their village.
